What other travelers are saying about Shomyo-ji Temple
It’s tucked away in a busy area … you have to use small pay parking lots, there’s a close one across come the 7/11 outside the main entrance to the property. They have a museum on property as well but we didn’t go. The pond full of Koi fish and turtles bring the whole area together. We’ll be back for Sakura and Fall colors.
The grounds at Shomyoji are very pretty. The bathrooms near the front are accessible and views of the lake and bridge are very nice. There are trails that I would like to go back and visit on another day with more time.
Shomyo Temple in Yokohama is a spiritual haven tucked amidst the urban landscape. Stepping into its precincts, one is immediately enveloped by a profound sense of serenity and reverence. The temple, with its rich history, is a blend of architectural beauty and deeply rooted Buddhist traditions. Each nook and corner whispers tales of devotion and time-honored practices.
The meticulously maintained gardens that surround the temple provide a lush backdrop, enhancing the meditative atmosphere. With chants resonating in the air and the subtle fragrance of incense, Shomyo Temple offers a soulful retreat, making it an essential visit in Yokohama's vibrant tapestry.
A hidden gem. Serene and tranquil. Get bread or rice crackers to feed the fish. Can pet and feed the cats if you are lucky. And there's a short hike to the hilltop and down which can be done in less than an hour. Best visited during Sakura and autumn for the colors. But it's beautiful anytime of the year.
Beautiful temple a short walk from the Kanazawa-bunko station. Beautiful set of bridges over the pond. I also liked the hiking trails behind the temple. They're not very well traveled and somewhat overgrown but you also have them to yourselves and they're not that long - so you can't get too lost.
