A must-do experience in Hakone!
We had an absolutely fantastic time at Lake Ashi. We took the Hakone Pirate Ship for a round trip departing from Togendai Port, and it was worth every yen. The return ticket cost ¥3,000, which is very reasonable for the experience.
The ships themselves are really fun and beautifully detailed, but the real highlight is the stunning scenery. Standing out on the deck and taking in the panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding Hakone mountains was incredibly relaxing and picturesque. It's the perfect way to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Highly recommend this to anyone visiting Hakone!
The lake is known for its views of Mount Fuji, its numerous hot springs, historical sites,However, i might visit at the wrong timimg so there is nothing special. Surrounded by mountains and trees ,also a few buildings along the shore. If you visit Hakone, you can take a 30-minute boat cruise excursion from the port at Hakone Sekisho-ato Port or the Moto-hakone Port.
Beautiful views from the pirate ship. We enjoyed this boat ride and did just the one way on a Saturday morning. We bought tickets from the machine on the day and waited about 20-30 mins to get on the boat.
There’s something quietly magical about Lake Ashi (芦ノ湖). Formed in the caldera of Mount Hakone after a volcanic eruption over 3,000 years ago, the lake blends natural beauty with a deep sense of history.
On a clear day, the view of Mount Fuji rising beyond the water feels almost unreal—calm, distant, and perfectly framed. But even when Fuji hides behind the clouds, the lake has its own charm. Gentle waves, mountain air, and the slow pace of boats crossing the water create a peaceful, almost meditative atmosphere.
