What other travelers are saying about Miyajima Ropeway
Mt. Misen Ropeway
The complimentary bus was not at the bus stop so we hiked. Our pants were soaked even with ponchos as it poured while we hiked to the ropeway. There are two steep parts to the climb.
There are two parts to the ropeway. A gondola ride and a tram ride. The tram waits a while for passengers before it goes up or down. The fee is Y2,000 r.t.
Due to weather conditions, visibility at the tram’s station was poor. It was pouring so we decided not to hike 30 minutes to the summit. We won’t experience the “like heaven” feel of viewing captivating panoramic sights anyway. Based on the map, there is an observatory, temples and shrines at different spots of the trail up (ref. Picture of map uploaded).
When we got back to the base of the gondola, they had suspended operations because of the weather.
Fortunately, the bus was at the top stop so we rode it back to the Torii Shrine.
Awesome way to see the stunning views and to get to the top where there's an observation deck, shrine and quite a few other hiking options! Of course, there are drink vending machines at the top, too! Some of the photos from this review are of the hike to the observation deck at the top! It's about 20 minutes walk from the top (second) cable car station 🚠
This cable car takes visitors up Mount Misen. A return ticket costs 2000 yen. It can be booked directly on site or in advance on the website. The ride is divided into two parts. Visitors have to change trains at an intermediate station. Access is not barrier-free. From the mountain station, you have to walk for about half an hour to get to the top of the mountain.
Went to Hiroshima for a long weekend in mid September and stayed a whole day in Miyajima island. We took the cable car in the morning and enjoyed a smooth ride with scenic views up to the highest level possible. Price for the ride one way was 1200 ¥. From there we hiked up to the peek of Mt. Misen. Please fill up your water supply at the exit of the cable car, as there is no more supply after this. The view from the summit is stunning and you can enjoy a 360 degree outlook from there. On the way up you come across a lot of interesting shrines and rock formations. Please be aware, that the entire hike is full of stairs. For people with health issues I would recommend to stay at the observatory close to the cable car exit. You have also great views from there.
We took the route down hill to the Daishoin Temple which was just beautiful. If you have the time and your physical condition is ok, I would highly recommend this half day tour!
The view was superb, and I climbed to the Mt. Misen observation point, but I found the view from the Ropeway was the same as from the top. So, you can skip the hike if you’re not into hiking or short on time.
