What other travelers are saying about Miyajima Ropeway
Great sights and pamphlet with explanation of the wonders at Mt Misen. The line can get quite long though - to go up at 2 pm was about 40 minutes. The round trip ticket is ¥2000 and can be purchased at the station or at a shop on the way to the ropeway. Note that the walk to the station is quite steep and may be difficult for those with mobility issues. There is a ramp alternative to stairs.
There are two rope ways that have a transfer in the middle. The first ropeway car seats 6-8 comfortably seated. The second ropeway car fits as many as can fit and can be quite packed. This ropeway also operates less frequently (usually 4 times an hour)
This was a great experience. It was easy to buy the tickets at the gate and the ride was smooth although the second leg of the ropeway is very squished. The view from the observatory is great. Would recommend going earlier to make the experience more enjoyable.
This was a really cool experience. The views at the top are absolutely worth it. Once you get to the top you have the choice of going to the nearby observation platform which is right around the corner, or the peak which is at least a thirty minute walk with substantial elevation change.
Make sure you make it back before the last car because if you miss it, it'll be a long walk down.
The views are unforgettable. Definitely recommend!
Mt. Misen Ropeway
The complimentary bus was not at the bus stop so we hiked. Our pants were soaked even with ponchos as it poured while we hiked to the ropeway. There are two steep parts to the climb.
There are two parts to the ropeway. A gondola ride and a tram ride. The tram waits a while for passengers before it goes up or down. The fee is Y2,000 r.t.
Due to weather conditions, visibility at the tram’s station was poor. It was pouring so we decided not to hike 30 minutes to the summit. We won’t experience the “like heaven” feel of viewing captivating panoramic sights anyway. Based on the map, there is an observatory, temples and shrines at different spots of the trail up (ref. Picture of map uploaded).
When we got back to the base of the gondola, they had suspended operations because of the weather.
Fortunately, the bus was at the top stop so we rode it back to the Torii Shrine.
2,000 yen gives you a round trip gondola ride up the mountain and back. Tickets can be purchased at the base gondola station or at a souvenir shop kiosk before your hike up.
To get to the gondola base station, you can hike up or take a free shuttle van.
There are 2 gondolas to take. A small one and a big one. Once you make it all the way to the top you can view a lookout or hike 20 mins to view the top observatory. The 20 min hike can be done with sneakers and is a moderate difficulty. There is an initial decent down, then up.
This attraction is definitely worth 2,000 yen. Great views can be had up top!
