We didn't have much time, so we just walked along the canal. But it was a beautiful sunny day and because we went early, it was almost empty. There was a crowd for the boat tour, but we didn't go there. I'm sure exploring the warehouses would have been fascinating, but just to see all the Meiji era western-style buildings was a piece of history I wasn't expecting. Well worth even a short visit, and from here, it's just a minute's walk to the glass-ware shops.
We arrive at Otaru around 3pm. It was a good time since it was 2 hours before sunset. We manage to stroll at the street of Otaru from Otaru station to Otaru Canal. At the canal, we enjoy the cool weather of autumn (it was in late October). The view was very beautiful soon after sunset at 5pm, and the lights start to on from buildings around the canal.
There's are some spot that very nice to take photo.
Some tourists also enjoy the canal cruise. It was priced 1800¥ for day trip and 2000¥ for night trip.
One of the most iconic landmarks in Otaru and even in Hokkaido. The view is great no matter you are visiting this place in summer or winter. The only downside is there are too many people and it is difficult to take a good photo
Absolutely beautiful. Highly recommend visiting and walking alongside the canal during your visit to Otaru.
Visited here during Autumn, which has a different vibe than during the winter, but equally beautiful and serene in its own way.
Waste of time it is just an ordinary canal I can see this same view at any neighbourhood in Singapore. Came here in early November, autumn. It was raining, there was nothing going on in the canal and nearby it too. It looked nothing like the pictures online, my photo was taken with a $300 phone unfiltered. I wouldn't come here again. I don't even know why this has become a tourist spot. I'm starting to appreciate drains back at home now since it is literally the same
