Onshi Hakone Park, perched majestically on the shores of Lake Ashinoko, offers an enthralling blend of natural grandeur and historical significance. Once the grounds of the Imperial Villa, this park, established in 1950, is a jewel in Hakone's crown, providing visitors with panoramic views that stretch from the tranquil waters of the lake to the iconic silhouette of Mount Fuji.

The park's landscape is a marvel of Japanese garden design, seamlessly integrating lush lawns, intricate rock arrangements, and meticulously maintained pathways. Each season transforms the park into a new masterpiece: cherry blossoms create a pastel canopy in spring, vibrant green foliage invites summer strolls, autumn’s maple leaves set the hills ablaze with color, and the stark beauty of snow-dusted landscapes enchants in winter.

Walking through Onshi Hakone Park, one is immediately drawn to the remnants of the former Imperial Villa, where the Japanese royal family once retreated for relaxation. These historical relics offer a glimpse into the opulent past while the surrounding gardens reflect a timeless elegance.

The park is also a haven for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts, with its rich biodiversity and scenic viewpoints. As you wander along the winding trails, each turn reveals a new vista, whether it's the shimmering expanse of Lake Ashinoko or the distant, majestic peak of Mount Fuji.

What other travelers are saying about Onshi Hakone Park

This place is a perfect spot for your weekend cascade. There are couple of great pictures spots with great view with both mountains and the nearby lake. Although when we went, it was a bit cloudy, on a sunny day with clear sky, you could also see Mt. Fuji. We did see some foliages and they were as beautiful as you would see in these post cards. There are some stores around the park too where you could get some snacks and refreshments. Overall, a very solid choice if you just want to enjoy a great view.

Beautiful park with a great atmosphere and really fresh air. It’s a lovely spot, but just be aware that the walk can be a little tricky. There are limited sidewalks, so you have to walk along the street at times. Also, a heads-up for travelers: bring cash! Most of the restaurants nearby are cash only.

Great spot to see a beautiful view of Mt Fuji. Signs are very helpful throughout the park. The grounds crew does an amazing job to keep the park looking beautiful. Easy to access via public transport with a bus station right outside of it. Glad we stopped here!
