What other travelers are saying about Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium
Stunning! We expected our experience to not be the best because of the crowds but despite it being busy it was completely fine. It never felt too crowded and there was plenty of space to see everything.
The whale shark and manta rays are definitely the highlight and 100% worth seeing especially for the cheap admission. Make sure you check out the overhead view of the huge tank too. Other than that there is still lots to see!
We went in the afternoon and we got to see the sunset at a nearby beach after our visit which I highly recommend if you time it right.
This is a must see!
I can't imagine going to Okinawa and not stopping at the aquarium. The whale shark tank was so mesmerizing I could sit there for hours. My kids loved the shark area with the vending machine to get a shark tooth. We ate at the cafeteria which I would say was pretty decent 6/10
I can't decide between the turtles and the dolphins which was my favorite outdoor exhibit. If you're visiting Okinawa you must go to the aquarium!
The amount of species that are preserved here is huge. I was astonished by the size of the aquarium but I feel some of the tanks / pools are very small for certain species like the turtles or the manatees. The main tank with the whale shark and stingrays is impressive but I feel torn by how small it is for the animals inside.
I arrived first thing in the morning and within an hour or two it was already packed. I recommend going there as soon as possible to avoid bigger crowds and enjoy the main tank with few people. The complex also has some interesting viewpoints and nice beaches to relax at.
It was my first time in Okinawa, Japan. This was the first on list.
Overall, The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is a must-visit attraction for anyone traveling to Okinawa. It's impressive exhibits, commitment to education and breathtaking location make it a standout destination. Whether you're fascinated by marine biology or simply looking for a unique and enriching experience, the aquarium offers something for everyone. A visit here is not only entertaining but also inspires a greater understanding and respect for our oceans.
I want to love it but it’s really showing its age. If you have kids it’s a home run. If you like a quality aquarium, I think the Osaka one is done much better and the Kyoto one although small is better too. But obviously it’s significant and it’s good to see if you are close by. But lower your standards.
