What other travelers are saying about Mihama American Village
I felt that the American Village was a vibrant mini "city" that offers a unique blend of American and Okinawan culture. With its retro American-style architecture, Ferris wheel, and wide variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options, it felt that there was a mini slice of the U.S. in the heart of Okinawa. The atmosphere was energetic, and there's something for everyone, from shopping and dining to enjoying live music and the beach nearby. It grew especially more charming in the evening when the area lights up, creating a bit of a festive vibe. While it can be a bit touristy, the American Village provides a fun experience that's perfect for those looking to explore a different side of Okinawa.
I strongly recommend bringing an umbrella as a good portion of the American Village is not sheltered and going in between the clusters of shops require some walking under open air. Enjoy!
A tourist attraction and shopping arcade in Maihama. Plenty of parking lots. You can enjoy variety of food - pizza, japanese, ice-cream, tacorice, simple burger and coffee.
If you’re a shopaholic, you can spend a whole day here. You will enjoy local shops, souvenir shops or AEON dept store!
Lastly, there are many hotels where you can stay and wake up with picturesque view of the Okinawan beach.
Super cute place. I was at first resistant to visit it but was a great surprise. The sunset is beautiful from there. And the village has a nice beach vibe. Lots of restaurants and shops so you can walk for a while before/after dinner.
Public transportation to/from is a bit challenging. From Naha city center took us 30 minutes, around 4400 yens.
A really fun place to wandering around, enjoy a meal from the variety of options, buy something quirky and get some great photos. Very kitschy but definitely worth visiting.
This is one of our favorite spots. We like to come down on the weekend to see the fireworks at the boardwalk. 🎇 There’s a lot to see on the weekends. Other than the small stores and restaurants there will sometimes be people performing. On different occasions I have seen dancing, bands, and a few times some locals rapping. Often the performers are local people. I like the energy. The only negative I have is sometimes we get stopped to get prayed over. Not to sure if it’s a local religion or not.
