What other travelers are saying about Kuromon Ichiba Market

It’s probably a tad pricey, paid $6 for sweet potato chips. Very nice but compared to other areas you can eat far more for less. It’s a great experience though for tourists. Found the seafood on display very interesting. Nice coffee shops in area too.

About Food & this Place : This market is one of the prides of Osaka people and is popular with tourists from all countries. It is a place where you can find a variety of food, such as fresh seafood, rice bowls, premium meats, delicious desserts, fresh seasonal fruits and household goods. Atmosphere : It is a colorful, lively place with a variety of activities. If you visit Osaka, you should definitely experience it once. Even if you don't like the hustle and bustle of people, I think you'll fall in love with the charm of this place.

Definitely very busy during lunch hour, but there is a great variety of seafood and meat items in the market. I’d recommend walking around to try different stalls and bring cash. There are some stalls that accept cards as well, but smaller vendors do not. It does get very crowded, but the area is easy to navigate. Seafood items tend to sell out earlier in the day, but I have passed some stalls that had 50% of the remaining seafood items closer to 4pm, which is definitely a steal. Easily walkable from Namba station and a 15 minute walk to Dontonburi area.

I expected better from this market, everything we tried wasn't that great or exciting. Many of the vendors were the same and the seafood looked better than it was. Not many vendors selling crab accepted credit cards despite the high prices (we were nearing the end of the trip and low on yen). The grilled crab we got was dry and bland. Strawberry daifuku and sweet potato chips ordinary. Beef tongue was a bit tough, unlike others we had elsewhere. We did find my husbands favorite Japanese soda at a vending machine here, so we made a couple of trips back to that particular machine.

During my 9 day Japan trip, this was one of the many street markets I visited. I find that the most popular ones are basically tourist traps and feature many of the same foods and vibe, so if you've been to one you've been to them all. Still worth visiting if you haven't been to one yet. I had really good gyoza and shrimp tempura here.
