What other travelers are saying about Tochoji Temple
Peaceful and a beautiful landscape Buddhist temple in the city centre. There's a big Buddha statue on the upper floor with entrance fees required (50 yen). Behind the Buddha statue, there's a passage with total darkness to test yourself to find enlightenment to the exit. Quite interesting experience!
Must go!
Apart from the temple, some members of the Kuroda clan are buried there.
There’s a giant beautiful wooden Buddha statue amongst other smaller and historical statues.
- Small admission fee to see the Buddha.
- Under the statue there’s a tunnel where you can go through “from hell to heaven” path.
- unfortunately you’re not allowed to take pictures from the inside but I definitely recommend for you to see for yourself.
The temple is surrounded by beautiful trimming trees, I went there on autumn, the leaves changed the colour, it was so stunning.
The temple’s main attraction is a wooden seated Buddha statue, it is about 16.1 meters tall.
(Only 50 yen fee for entrance)
( you are not allowed to take photos inside)
At the base of the statue’s left side, there is an entrance to a small museum. Alongside the small museum is a story of the abyss of hell. Before exit we have to walk through a pathway of darkness and out the way to light. It was an unforgettable experience that I wouldn’t forget it.
Peaceful place, beautiful 5 stories pagoda, and beautiful wooden Buddha' statue.
Taking stairs to the 2nd floor, if you would like to see beautiful wooden Buddha.
The fee is 50yen, worth it!
The statue took 4 years to crafted, masterpiece. No picture has been taken, not allowed. Personally it's understandable and I respect that.
The main entrance area with zen garden brings such a peaceful escape. If you walk toward the pagoda area, there would be graves of 3 shoguns.
Beautiful temple with a big wooden buddha.
It's free for the temple entry but an extra 50 yen per person to visit the big wooden buddha on the second floor which is strongly recommended. You should also walk under the wooden buddha. It's a great and exotic experience.
