What other travelers are saying about The Railway Museum
This is such a fabulous museum for those that have a love of railways and the art of travel.
I booked tickets through the Klook app which meant you had easy access through the QR code accompanying your booking.
I spent a lovely time here wondering around the various locomotives and carriages, looking at the history of railways in Japan and other displays. Whilst the museum is geared towards Japanese visitors, there is much interpretation in English for those for overseas.
The wonderful gentleman pictured helped me on my 1st arrival, told me a little on the 1st engines that came into Japan and hearing I was from York in the UK took me to plaque that celebrates the two museums cooperation.
Alas I didn’t catch his name but if the museum sees this please do pass on my sincere thanks to a wonderful volunteer!
Throughly recommended and I’ll be back again next time I’m in Japan.
This is the most interactive museum ever! 🚅🚂🚃 Even for a non-railroad enthusiast, the museum is very interesting and has a massive amounts of exhibits to experience. There are certain “shows” that occur at different times e.g. explanation of the train parts, or watching the central train spin/change direction on the track. It gave a greater appreciation for all the types of trains you may travel on throughout less urban areas of Japan. The whole place is very impressive. You can even enter in their raffles to earn more experiences including a Shinkansen “driving” experience, and a mini train driving experience (requires winning the raffle AND paying an extra fee e.g. 600JPY).
This was such a great time! It was about $25 USD for two adults. We spent the better part of the day here witnessing this amazing museum. This had many unique and interactive exhibits for all ages. This was hands down one of the best museums we have been to. The only down side was the museum was packed with kids the whole time but were mostly well behaved. We only speak English they had an app to translate everything for us which was really helpful.
Epic. Well worth a visit (if you like trains).
Loads of interactive stuff, restaurants, cafes, simulators and of course a detailed history of how Japan has excelled at train travel.
Top tip is to download the app and when you arrive enter the raffles as some attractions are raffled off due to numbers .
Definitely a WOW for train lover children. It's very educational for grownups too. Vast collection of actual train models across history of Japanese modernization. Different zones displaying different era of engine technology. Truly inspiring for young ones. And the information and playground section of the museum, bravo!! Also, must try to train themed restaurant!
