What other travelers are saying about TeamLab Borderless
Feel like this needs no intro since a lot of people aim to go to at least one teamLab if not multiple when they visit Japan. I'd say it's worth going to check out. Buy your tickets in advance and definitely aim for some of the earlier slots because we went at 9-9:30 which is the first time slot and it got significantly busier as the morning progressed. We spent about 1.5-2 hours inside and it was more than enough time to walk through the rooms and even double back to a couple favourites.
The light shows change within each room over time so sometimes you'll go back to the same room and it'll be different. The most popular one with a long line was definitely the aquarium room where you draw your own fish and it goes up on the wall so hit that room early. Some of the installations are interactive too, so they may react when you touch the walls.
Like any tourist attraction, be ready to deal with big crowds, people taking pictures for social media, and kids running around screaming and even though they explicitly tell you before you enter to please be mindful of your behaviour.
Also DEFINITELY recommend buying the tearoom ticket when you buy your entrance ticket, as it gets you entry into the tearoom as well as a drink. You can also pay extra for the ice cream we well which I was all really good, and the lights are interactive with the tea/ice cream.
They have a teamlabs app that will tell you the history of each art installation based on your location, which is neat if you like learning about them, but I doubt you will want to spend that much time staring at your phone here.
Cool experience overall! The only downside was the light sculpture exhibit was apparently down for maintenance while we were there, but there was still plenty to see.
Amazing experience! Totally worth the hype.
**Tips for an even better visit:**
1) Book the first time slot: We went on a weekend and chose the earliest slot. It was perfect—no crowds, and we got plenty of great photos.
2) Head straight to the popular rooms: As soon as you enter, make a beeline for the Bubble Room and the rail-microscope-looking room. This gives you more time to enjoy these attractions before the crowd builds.
You’ll have to wander around since there is no maps provided with its borderless concept, but don’t stress. Focus on the must-see exhibits first, then explore the rest at your own pace.
Highly recommend visiting!
Loved my experience here. I spent a good 2 hours on a chilly day in Tokyo exploring the endless rooms. Definitely worth a visit. :) My favourite was the sketch room where you can draw a fish that ends up being projected on the wall and comes to life (you can interact with it). Pretty neat! The tea experience was great too. Not only was the tea delicious (I got the Roasted Green Tea Lemongrass Rice Milk Latte), the artistic light effects on it were beautiful too.
Oh what a wonderful experience. It was just so much fun and so amazing!! Definitely come for a visit here. I went twice and found it was more expensive going on a weekend. Definitely need at least 2 hours here. There are so many rooms to explore. They don’t give you a map which is a bit annoying as you could miss some of the really cool rooms. So do some research first so you can decide which rooms you want to go to which will ensure you don’t miss out on. Loved every minute of it. I’ve also been to TeamLab Planets and loved that. They are both different experiences but both amazing and fun.
Very cool surreal experience in Tokyo. Great fun and worth the price. There’s a lot of hidden rooms which are beautiful. It’s super busy so come on a weekday if you can and book tickets in advance. You can spend as much time as you like inside. We had the flexible pass so didn’t have to come at a precise time which was great and also included drinks in the tea room. Enjoyable and fun experience for both adults and kids.
