What other travelers are saying about Nara Park (Nara Deer Park)
We visited the buddhist temple and walked past plenty of lovely deer. Some of the deer do get aggressive though when there is food around. It was so nice to be able to feed them for 200¥. The temple is very beautiful and makes for great photos. This is a great place for tourists as plenty of staff speak some english.
Away from the temple lies a quiet, quaint and slow park that’s worth sitting chilling and baking in the sun. The deer park is worth visiting! Just take note, the deers WILL gather around you when they see your crackers so do expect abit of biting on your clothes (but it’s not in a hostile manner don’t be afraid, don’t scare them thanks).
What a lovely experience visiting Nara Deer Park. The deer are friendly, you can feed them rice cakes from the vendors near by. It’s a very fun and exciting experience. While touristy and busy, if you go early the crowds tend to be less.
Visiting Nara Deer Park was an unforgettable experience! The park is beautiful, with stunning temples and lush greenery, but the highlight was undoubtedly feeding the friendly, free-roaming deer. They gently bow before taking the special deer crackers, which made every interaction feel so special.
You can get the Deer Biscuits for 200Yen.
It was amazing to see how well the deer coexist with visitors, adding to the serene and almost magical atmosphere of the park. Walking among them, watching their playful antics, and getting up close was a unique and heartwarming experience. If you’re ever in Nara, this is an absolute must-visit!
A must visit place for all tourists! Especially if it’s your first time in Nara. The deer are very friendly and open to letting you pet them. Though, a couple of biscuits bought from the nearby vendors around the park is appreciated for them as well! (¥200). Do be careful as the deer can headbutt your rear for food as they did for me when I came here in 2023.
