What other travelers are saying about Kenrokuen Garden
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. We came in late September without too much in bloom and yet it was still beautiful. The garden is so well constructed you can feel the flow that was intended and enjoy the weaving in and out of some impressively old trees. It was definitely a bit tourist crowded, but we managed to stick to the outside paths and not feel too overwhelmed...and we still saw more than enough. Besides, we were all happy to help each other take pictures at the pretty photo spots (tourists supporting tourists, right?) and there are many spectacular views to be had.
Come here with no pressure on schedule, take a relaxing stroll through some wonderful arrangements, and send a few pictures home to the family.
Very well kept gardens which offered a needed shade from the hot sun! This is a place that allows you to relax and enjoy the quiet atmosphere.
There were not many people around and that gave us a chance to really enjoy watching the gardeners taking care of the moss and was almost meditative. The gardens are not very big and we spent less than an hour there, but for a price of 320 yen per person it was totally acceptable!
We did not visit the tea house but just saw it from the outside. On the opposite entrance from where we came in you will directly see the Kanazawa Castle Park and there is also a quaint street with restaurants and shops selling golden ice cream!
Beautiful place which you should take time to savour. We visited on a late Mon morning - there was light rain and fortunately not too many (loud) tourists. The sun came peeking out later during lunch.
Enchanting Japanese garden with sculptured pine trees, bushes, ponds, stone lanterns and pagodas. Lots of food stations featuring Dango, ice cream, coffee and tea. Restrooms are plentiful, as well. The paths are gravel and fairly level once you ascend from the entrance to the guided pathway. Very historical and one of only three of its kind in Japan. If you’re 65 and older or disabled the entrance fee is waived! A must see for everyone!
Gorgeous, peaceful gardens with a new perspective around every curve. We spent a leisurely 90 minutes walking through the park just before closing time. If the tea houses had been open, I could have stayed longer. One of the 3 most famous gardens in Japan. Well worth the time to visit.
While the garden is walkable, I wouldn't call it wheelchair or kid-friendly--paths are all gravel and there aren't any places to run and play. Small children need to be watched carefully as some of the water features would be easy to fall into.
