What other travelers are saying about Higashiyama Botanical Garden
A lovely zoo, though it would be better if the wild cats had larger enclosures. It’s a bit sad to see them in small cages. Some animals, like the chimpanzees, were not available during our visit. There are nice picnic spots throughout the zoo and botanical garden.
Used to come here quite often. It's fun and has a low ticket price. Wide array of animals ranging from birds to mammals to reptiles to fish. There's a nice observation deck to overlook the park and city. Arguably nicer than the zoo is the botanical garden at the back of the zoo with many large gardens, ponds, and plants.
It's a public zoo with many interesting animals to see. Quite a bit of these are either endangered or close to being extinct in the wild so hopefully they're being bred. We enjoyed the food and the zoo is kept very clean. Be aware that they're doing some construction/upgrades so a few less things to see than normal. It's very cheap to go and educational. I think the staff is doing their best with taking care of the wild animals. We came to see the Pallas cat and the Lesser Panda's and we're not disappointed. Please note that it seems the Pallas cat comes out mid afternoon according to one of the otakus who visit often. He was right on. It amazes me how some of the animals don't try to escape since they can easily jump (kangaroo) or walk over (giraffes/elephants) their pens. Worth a visit if you're in Nagoya and don't mind zoo's.
Great place to see Animals in Nagoya for ¥500 yen entrance fee.
Lot of learning experience and relaxing to see botanical garden / greenhouse in one location.
