What other travelers are saying about Fukuoka Municipal Zoo and Botanical Garden

I really enjoyed this place with so many animals and gardens to visit. For only 600 yen, you can spend three to four hours here just casually strolling around. Though the cages are a bit small for some of the animals and right now they are trying to prevent the bird flu from spreading so all bird exhibits are closed off.

The botanical garden was great and I definitely recommend it, even if when I visited it was under renovation. The zoo gets quite crowded on a public holiday. I cannot help but feel some of the animals would need bigger cages, e.g. elephants, apes and bit cats. It was a bit sad.

The garden is very big with bungalows allowing travellers to stay overnight with advanced booking. Even for day trip, it’s a nice place for families with elderly and small kids. Electric wheelchair for elderly to rent while strollers for small kids to rent are available. A very nice place to take pictures and enjoy as every corner can make you super nice pictures!!! Suitable for people looking for a cozy holiday getting close to nature.

The Fukuoka City Zoo is a zoo operated by the city of Fukuoka. Children can enter for free. We are foreigners, but we were very grateful to be able to take advantage of the free admission benefit. We think it's a wonderful welfare policy, worthy of a developed country, to offer free admission to a place like a zoo, which is enjoyed by children. The admission fee for accompanying adults is also affordable. The zoo is spacious and has a lot to see. There is a wide variety of animals, and the layout is suitable for walking, so we were very satisfied. Although it was difficult to visit during the hot weather, it would be a great place to visit in the spring or fall.

heartbreakingly small enclosures :( all animals kept in cages with concrete floors even the bigger animals like elephants and rhinos. animals have poor living conditions with little to no enrichment. no space for them to roam. some of the animals look stressed and some are physically unwell. pls don’t visit, this is not humane :”( please renovate and feed skinny sad sun bear :(
