What other travelers are saying about Fukuoka Municipal Zoo and Botanical Garden
A great place to visit with kids! It’s huge, with some hilly areas, but the lifts are well located, so it’s easy to get around with a stroller. You can see the animals up close, which is amazing. There’s also a rose botanical garden next to it, but it was under construction when I visited (Nov 25). The toilets and nursing room were very clean and well maintained. The information staff was incredibly kind and helpful. I left my bag somewhere, and she did their absolute best to help me find it — thanks to her, I got it back! 🙏🏻🙏🏻😍❤️
Amazing! It is extremely worth it for the entry fee of 600 yen. There is a variety of animals to see. Recommended to go during cooler weather as most of the zoo is unsheltered and sits on a hill. Add this to your itinerary if you’re unsure of what to do in Fukuoka!
PS. as other reviews have mentioned, some of the animals do look quite lonely in the enclosures 😢
The entry fee is ridiculously cheap. We went on a Thursday morning and it was pretty quiet, which was great.
🍝🌮The restaurant served surprisingly good food ,way better than expected
We couldn’t finish the whole route around the zoo and only managed to see about a quarter of the animals because it was just way too hot outside 😢😭absolutely scorching, we couldn’t handle it 😭😭😭.
Would definitely recommend coming on a cooler day or when the weather’s nicer!

This zoo looks more well maintained than some of the others I've been to in Japan.
There is a restraraunt next to the entrance which is a bit pricey, food was average but it was nice to sit down and relax before walking around.
Price is 600 yen per adult and toddlers are free. This includes the zoo and botanical garden. Strollers are available for hire at 330 yen.
One thing to note is that majority of the zoo section is uphill which can be challenging during hot days.
I found both the zoo and the garden to be quite disappointing. Having previously visited the excellent Ueno Zoo and Tennoji Zoo, my expectations were high, but this site fell short in terms of exhibit quality and overall upkeep/variety.
The zoo houses a wide variety of animals, including mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. Notable residents include lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes, and various primates.
