What other travelers are saying about Moerenuma Park
Very enjoyable and relaxing morning with kids.
Bicycle rental is available at the entrance at reasonable price.
It's got a small chilling pool for kids to have fun in summer time.
A bit remote from downtown which took us 20-30 minutes by taxi.
It's kind of a pain to get to from odori station. You have to take a bus or taxi to get there. Taxi cost about $20 one way.
The park itself was alright. It was fun riding around on a bike. The view from the plateau was kinda nice... And good exercise. Glass pyramid was kinda cool too. Probably not worth going to if limited on time.
Moerenuma Park was created on the site of a garbage disposal site. Under the concept of ‘turning the entire park into one sculpture,’ world-renowned sculptor Isamu Noguchi (イサム · ノグチ) was in charge of the basic design. Anyone can freely touch or climb on the various forms of artwork placed in a large green area. The park's biggest attraction is the glass pyramid 'HIDAMARI' with the pretty name 'Where the Sun Sets'. Inside, there is a restaurant, souvenir shop, and observation room. It is recommended for families as it is great for children to run around freely. You can also rent a bicycle at the east entrance and tour the park.
Very interesting park, has great views. Doesn't have many places to sit down if you wanted to rest. Would recommend going a cloudy day or slightly rainy afternoon.
Visited on 1st May. The leaves are grown in on the cherry blossom trees but it's calm to walk around. Can imagine it would have been incredible during full bloom. You can hire bikes for 200 yen for two hours but the seat doesn't adjust very high if you are a tall person.
