Large structure surrounded by gardens. Very picturesque and interesting. There's an admission fee and you must remove your outdoor shoes before entering the building. There are lockers for your belongings at the entrance. The staff were friendly and helpful but only speaks Japanese.
Well worth a visit while you are in Nikko. This well preserved building and garden show the style that the Imperial Family had. The timber work through the buildings is so precise and beautiful.
Former Imperial Summer House. Beautiful architecture and gardens in a very serene environment. It was just so relaxing to visit, escaping the bustle of the city. There's an unassuming Imperial tea house that serves simple lunch and sweets.
Constructed as a retreat for Emperor Taisho, Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa incorporates the architectural styles of the late Edo (1603-1867), Meiji (1868-1912) and Taisho (1912-1926) periods. Visitors can explore the diverse buildings and beautiful gardens while getting a feel for Japanese imperial culture. The villa is a registered National Treasure.
Very well preserved imperial summer residence, now turn into an imperial museum. Besides Japanese narratives, it also has English translation. A must visit for Nikko visitors
