Local fisherman sell their freshly caught fish at very low prices at this busy market in Yamaguchi. Karato Market originated as a street market in 1909, and its ships currently fish throughout Japan.
We were travelling along the coast of Yamaguchi from Shimonoseki to see Tsunoshima Bridge and Motonosumi Inari Shrine when we came across this hidden gem perched on a clifftop.
The 1,780 meter bridge is one of Japan's longest toll-free bridges and a popular location for TV ads. The well-maintained observatories on both sides of the bridge provide spectacular views.
Following the order of the white fox god, a shrine was established in 1955 for the joint tutelary goddess of Taikodani shrine in Shimane prefecture Tsuwano.

The local lord Horio Yoshiharu oversaw the construction of Matsue Castle, which began in 1607 and was completed in 1611. It was erected after feudal Japan's final major conflict, hence it was never used.
