Great observation deck, and free too which was a bonus. We waited around 20 minutes for the lift up at around 3pm, but was well worth it. The gift shop was actually very good with some nice items I hadn't found in the other tourist places. The views were fab and we enjoyed a soft serve ice cream from the cafe too. Good for a free observation view, would recommend.
One of the best observation decks in Tokyo for a 360 view of the city, and of the far corners of Japan the eye can see. A stamp can be found on the upper floor as well for those looking to collect stamps. I was only able to visit during the day time, but I can only imagine the evening views would be surreal as well.
The deck itself is free of entry, but can be limited to the number of folks looking to enter at any given time. I found the very start of the morning at 9:30AM to be not too busy.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is a striking example of modern architecture, featuring a unique twin-tower design. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Tokyo from the free observation decks on the 45th floor. The building's futuristic aesthetic is complemented by its spacious, well-designed interiors. A must-visit for architecture enthusiasts and those seeking a stunning cityscape!
We had the pleasure of visiting this buidling on two different occasions.
Once during the day and the other at night.
During the day, we went up for a quick tour and to check the view.
We had a guide with us who was answering our questions and giving us a plethora of useful information.
The view is great from up there.
We also enjoyed some drinks while up there.
During the night, you have the privilege of viewing the World's Largest Projection Mapping show.
It lasts roughly 15 minutes and displayed every 30 minutes on the 0 & 30 of every hour from 6 pm to 930 pm (please confirm the times as it changes depending on the seasons).
The projection show was amazing and unlike anything I've seen before (displayed on the Twin Towers).
It's worth mentioning that we watched 2 shows, and they were both different.
It's possible that they have more shows as well.
Best of all, the entry into the building, the guide, and the show are all free.
This is great for those traveling on a budget or parents with kids.
Overall, it was a great experience and worth your time, especially at sundown/night.

This was one of my favourite places in Tokyo! I was tempted here by a review that said it was the best view of the city, and yet it's FREE! I agree that it is the best view, both in terms of height and location within central Tokyo. You can go up either the south or north tower, or both! I went up the south tower, and think if you only have time to do one, it will give you the best view. Sadly, it was overcast, so despite knowing where Mt. Fuji was from the guides around the edge, we couldn't see it.
It is very spacious, and wasn't particularly busy. There is a souvenir shop and cafe. There was also a piano available for public use, and thanks to some very talented people, it was lovely to just sit and enjoy some music while waiting for the sun to go down.
The building itself is a stunning design, and if you wait until the evening, you can see the free light show, which I didn't stay for.
I only waited about 5 mins for the lift to go up as it wasn't particularly busy at around 3pm. There were more queues to go down, but just time it right and you don't wait long.
I'd thoroughly recommend this as a free alternative to the Sky Tower.
