닛코 야마와노오지는 천대종의 절이 됩니다. 닛코 야마와노지는 당초 헤이안 시대의 사가 천황에서 하사된 절의 「만원사」라고 불렸지만, 명력 원년(1655년)에 후미오 상황의 원선에 의해 「와노지」의 절 호가 하사되었습니다. 닛코산 총본보에서 「광명원」이라고 칭해 닛코산을 중흥한 아마미 오승정이 닛코산 전체의 총본보로서 재흥했습니다. 분리령의 혼란기 메이지 4년(1871년)에 소실하고 있습니다. 혼보 속에서 유일하게 태워 남은 건축물이 표문에서 닛코 오모테산도를 향해 세우는 혼보 표문에서 흑옻칠을 위해 구로몬이라고 통칭되어 있어 약의문의 형식이 됩니다. 표문은 황족을 닛코산의 문주(와노지궁)라고 하는 문적사원의 격식을 보여주는 문으로 천계대승정이 창건한, 국가의 중요문화재로 지정되어 있어 “국화의 문장”이 곁들여져 있습니다. 표문에는 탕 사자·모란 등의 조각이 베풀어지고 있습니다.
