Tradition & Creation: Craft Your Own Tatami-beri Masterpiece

Join our Tatami-beri Workshop and create a special handmade item while learning about Japanese traditions! Tatami-beri is the colorful fabric used to decorate tatami mats. In this workshop, you can choose from over 200 beautiful patterns and make a unique item of your own. 

As you craft, you’ll also hear interesting stories about the history and meaning of tatami designs. This experience is great for beginners, families, and anyone who loves Japanese culture.

There are many fun projects to choose from! You can make a mini tatami, ring case, smartphone strap, suitcase belt, or a shimenawa wreath in just one to two hours. For kids (ages 5 and up), we have shorter activities like a tie keychain or a ribbon hair accessory that take only 30 minutes. With simple steps and helpful guidance, you’ll enjoy a relaxing time and take home a beautiful handmade souvenir.
