Hoppy Street

Hoppy Street, or Hoppy Dori, is a small street in Asakusa, Tokyo, near Sensoji Temple. It is famous for cheap drinks and tasty grilled food. The name comes from Hoppy, a beer-flavored drink mixed with shochu, which became popular after World War II when real beer was too expensive. Even today, many bars serve it as a favorite drink.

The street is full of small, old-style Japanese pubs where people sit close together, enjoying food and drinks. Most places serve grilled meat skewers, like yakitori (chicken) and motsuyaki (pork innards), which go well with Hoppy. The atmosphere is friendly and lively, with simple tables and open-air seating.

Evenings are the best time to visit, as the street lights up and fills with people chatting and laughing. Although it is in a tourist area, Hoppy Street still feels local and affordable, making it a great place to enjoy real Tokyo nightlife without spending too much money.
