Omoide Yokocho

4.2 (200)Tourist AttractionMarketPoint Of InterestEstablishment

Omoide Yokocho, which means "Memory Lane," is a popular food street in Tokyo's Shinjuku district, Japan. It is home to a series of small restaurants, known as "yokocho," that date back to the post-World War II era.

Many of the eateries have been open for more than 70 years and the street features classic touches such as flickering red lanterns and retro signage. The name "Omoide" literally means "memories," and that's how visitors feel when they walk through this old street.

At night, this narrow alley is bustling with life, and there are about 60 small restaurants and bars along here. They serve traditional Japanese food, and visitors can sit down in the small spaces to enjoy local specialties such as yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), fresh seafood, and local sake.

The intimate dining experience that Japan is famous for fills this street with life. Besides delicious food, the alley offers a glimpse of the culture of post-war Tokyo. Preserved architecture and old-fashioned cooking methods add to the nostalgic atmosphere.

What other travelers are saying about Omoide Yokocho
