Nice shrine, ticket price is good, experience as well. Ofc you can buy many gifts here (expensive!).
Clean, well maintained, beautiful, 5 min walk from the nearest station.
The only thing I wish for was a better explanation as what to do during the cleansing ritual.
Lovely shrine and grounds. However, do be aware that some of the “museums” have a fee and that they close as early as 3:30. Also, while I was there, they had some filming taking place where seemingly tourists (not the photos I added) were pretending to pray. It kind of took away from the experience for me.
However, otherwise, it was a really beautiful place.
🟧 Shimogamo Shrine, Kyoto, Japan.
🙏🏻🟨 This shrine's formal name is "Kamo-mioya-jinja" it is located sandwiched between the Kamogawa and Takano rivers.
--🟥 It was built during the Heian period (794-1185) and is one of the oldest places in Kyoto, and is a national treasure. ✳️ It is very popular for people to come here to pray for peace.
A large shrine, which takes at least an hour to finish visiting all the spots. They are famous for their beauty and relationship blessings. The temples don’t look very special, but they have a lot of interesting and beautiful souvenirs. It's easy to transport, and free of charge, also near the tourist attractions, I recommend spending a morning visiting.
A beautiful shrine and part of a larger precinct that contains a forest walk, a tea house and other shrines.
Quick tip, take drinks before you go (if it's summer) believe it or not, there are no vending machines.
The Shrine is active and so not all areas are open to the public, which is a shame.
Take the bus from the Kyoto Bus Depot as it stops very close to the entrance.
