An extremely beautiful sight to behold just around the Gion area, this scenic lake separates the Shimogyo and Higashiyama wards. The Shimogyo side is lined with traditional ryokans and restaurants, while Higashiyama is bustling with tourists, eateries, and souvenir shops. I remember seeing this picturesque river scene in the Makanai series on Netflix, and it felt truly special to experience it firsthand. The tranquil beauty of this spot, combined with the vibrant atmosphere of the surrounding areas, makes it a must-visit when in Kyoto.
🟦 Kamo River- Gion district, Kyoto, Japan.
🟠This beautiful long stretch of river runs through downtown Kyoto and is sited right next to Pontocho Alley.
🟨 I see many people sitting on the banks of the river, having a snack or just relaxing in the grasses. 🩷 It is a nice place to sit and unwind during spring time when sakura trees bloom on both sides of the Kamo River.
The Kamo River is a wonderful spot, perfect for locals who enjoy running or walking. The serene environment and scenic views make it an ideal place to unwind and connect with nature. However, as a tourist, I found it challenging to pinpoint what sets it apart as a must-see attraction. That said, the tranquility and beauty of the river still offer a pleasant escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, and it's a lovely place to experience a more relaxed side of Kyoto.
This Kamogawa river has thousands years of history in Kyoto and is the heart of Kyoto...this river divides the city into the west and east...the famous Gion precinct is just around the Kamogawa...it is beautiful and is a casual place for people to walk around....there are lots of restaurants and hotels near by...this is definitely an landmark of Kyoto!
