What other travelers are saying about Eikando Zenrin-ji
Beautiful architecture and scenery even during summer. Can spend a whole day if visit during autumn season. Highly recommend to visit as the place is so exceptional and with less tourists.
Eikandō Temple in Kyoto is famous for its stunning autumn foliage, with vibrant maple leaves creating a breathtaking landscape. The temple's serene gardens, pond, and unique "Looking Back Amida" Buddha statue add to its charm. A visit offers a peaceful retreat and a glimpse into Japan's rich cultural and spiritual heritage, making it a must-see in Kyoto.
Came here at 4pm when the person in the ticket booth was putting the “closed” sign, but still let us go through and buy tickets.
We visited the temple when it was almost empty, and it was an amazing experience, much smaller and more personal than other grandiose spots around Kyoto. The interior of the temple was incredible and the different shrines and the pagoda and the well kept gardens made it a truly magical spot.
🟨 This Eikando temple is one of my favourite temples in Kyoto. ❇️🙏🏻It was so exceedingly beautiful, peaceful and calm without the hordes of tourists.
🟠 In fact, this Eikando Buddhist temple feels very spiritual as it is quiet and you have the luxury of time to stroll slowly through its grounds.
🌳🌳 Eikando temple, KYOTO, late winter a few years back.😰 It was super cold at 2 to 5 degs. If you have time, do visit this lovely temple in the mountaineous areas of Kyoto.
One of our favourite temples in Kyoto, just before the start of the Philosophers Path. Had access to the buildings and gardens. Beautifully set garden with a view of the main temple and pagoda. Nowhere near as busy as other sights in Kyoto, but just as scenic. Highly recommend.
