What other travelers are saying about Daigo-ji Temple
My favourite place in Kyoto!
Visited in October and there were only a handful of people around, which made it really special to explore.
The beauty around the premises is serene, unlike any other of the previous temples and gardens I visited in Japan.
The most beautiful Japanese gardens I've seen in Japan yet. I went on a weekday and I was alone there. You don't need to pay the extra 500 yen to get deeper into this house though (where the garden is), it's redundant.
Also the pagoda in the other area is beautiful.
However, when I visited there were a lot of trees being cut down (from what I gathered they were damaged in a storm or something like that) so there was a lot of noise from that, unfortunately. Still, I would highly recommend this place!
Beautiful place. Definitely attempt to go here early morning to avoid the crowds. We arrived here at 9am and stayed for 2 hours. The entire experience was like a personal tour for ourselves with no outside noise like every other temple in Japan. Perhaps we got lucky, but this place is definitely amplified by the seasons - lucky folks might get the infamous red leaves during the fall!
Ignora the other reviews. The garden is nice and it's more than 2 minutes and you can get a lot of history there. The garden is also now included in the price to go see the other section of the area. When we arrived there was a lot of parking available and it is a paid parking lot. They're optional hiking trails if you want to do that. We didn't hike and we probably spent about 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours here. This area is absolutely gorgeous and we highly recommend it.
This has some of the best gardens in Kyoto and a wonderful museum with antique statues, also large weeping cherries lit up at night which I unfortunately missed.
